In my initial call with my clients, I pay attention to what lights them up the most, and try to find that same inspiration within myself. When I spoke with Nera for the first time, she gushed about her and Jim's love of neoclassical art. As I listened to her speak, I was transported back to my own experience when I walked the ruins of Pompei for the first time as a twenty year old; When I was so close to the frescos I could touch them; the depictions of the goddess venus so vivid despite being worn by the textures of time; The pottery lining the stone walls, varying in shapes and styles and hues of terracotta; The frieze sculpture emerging from cracked stone. These visuals were the entry point for Nera and Jim's designs, the most prominent being the ancient Mediterranean garden fresco. I knew even before creating their invitation suite that the painting I created for them would be a statement moment in their wedding decor. It was a backdrop that set the stage but didn't dominate, the quiet container of the event design.
