Janie and Chris wanted their wedding to feel unmistakably of the Lowcountry. We looked to the landscape literally, with a custom painting, and figuratively, through textures and materials that evoked the serenity of walking through its grassy marshlands.
An expansive painting of the marsh became the heart of the invitation suite, layered with tone-on-tone letterpress, lacy rice paper that recalled Spanish moss, and translucent papers that suggested the misty layers of the landscape. A spoonbill and wood stork, birds that held special meaning in their early courtship, added a more personal thread.
As the celebration approached, those ideas began to take on new forms. Paper gave way to embroidery on silk and engraved wood, while the birds became an insignia that wove its way throughout the celebration. The original marsh painting transformed into a 60-foot backdrop behind the band. What began as an intimate piece of artwork guests first encountered in the mail ultimately became part of the environment they stepped into on the wedding day.
