Janie and Chris wanted their paper design to capture the serene beauty of Lowcountry, with it's dripping spanish moss, lush vegetation and its roots in Southern tradition. They also wanted to integrate the Woodstork and Spoonbill, birds that held symbolic meaning to their early courtship.
I created an elaborate painting of a marsh landscape, filled with flora and fauna native to Charleston. We wanted this painting to be the star of the suite, knowing we would be bringing it back as a large scale mural for the wedding day. I paired this painting with tone on tone letterpress details, a pillowy soft ricepaper wrap and a custom envelope with a magnetic enclosure.
When designing for the wedding day, I always like to layer in new and tactile materials. We brought in various shades of green linen for the bar signs as well as for the menu booklets which were embroidered with Janie and Chris' flying bird insignia. The escort cards featured green, engraved wood backings and letterpressed/calligraphed name cards. For the statement piece of the evening, I designed my painting to become a 30ft band backdrop, creating a rich and cohesive guest experience that brought the design full circle back to the invitations and save the dates.
Janie and Chris’ wedding stationery was designed in collaboration with Gregory Blake Sams Events.
