For Christina’s 39th birthday, she brought a group of close friends to Mexico for a dinner celebrating “México es para los enamorados.” The references were wonderfully maximal: Gucci, Frida Kahlo, tropical flora and fauna, and a sense that nothing needed to match.
The menu became an exercise in more-is-more: pink rattlesnakes, parrots, tropical florals, zebra stripes and a snow leopard all found their way into the artwork. Rather than trying to make the disparate elements behave, we leaned into the tension between them, allowing the composition to feel wild, layered and a little unexpected.
Hanniya Calligraphy created the loose, imperfect hand lettering, which we foiled on the reverse as a counterpoint to the abundance of the artwork.
