Cat and Matt’s ranch overlooking the Santa Barbara Channel was more than the setting for their wedding. The landscape had played an important role in shaping their life together, so we wanted to introduce guests to the place with the same intimacy and familiarity that they felt for it.
Guests arrived to a custom illustrated field guide. Paintings documented the views, flora and fauna of the ranch alongside maps of the surrounding area and their neighboring family vineyard. Bound with silk twine, the cover featured a sculpted emboss of purple sage and wildflowers growing throughout the property. Rather than simply welcoming guests to a destination, the book gave them a way to begin exploring a place that was at the core of Matt's family heritage.
As the weekend unfolded, the landscape continued to shape the details. Linen bar menus and embroidered cocktail napkins brought natural textures into cocktail hour, while dinner overlooking the ocean paired layered handmade-paper menus with embroidered throw blankets draped over each chair for guests as the evening cooled.
By brunch the following morning, the mood shifted. Whimsical illustrated menus picked up the brighter colors, patterns and abundance of the family-style table, allowing the paper to change with the experience while still feeling connected to the weekend as a whole.
